Three-Day Toubkal Trek via Azzaden

Toubkal Trek Three-Day via Azzaden will take you out of the busy Imlil Valley into the peace of the Azzaden Valley, where any traffic jams are usually of the four-legged mountain goat variety. It is a picturesque valley with lush river banks.

You’ll pass by the waterfalls at Ighouliden and on the next day tackle a steep climb up the scree to the Aguelzim Mountain pass at 3,560m which offers stunning views over the Atlas Range. The big draw is then of course Trekking Toubkal (4,165m) itself, expect an early start and sunrise over the Mountains and Sahara Desert!

On a 2 day Toubkal Trek you will make a steady ascent out of Imlil up the Mizane Valley towards Mount Toubkal. On route you’ll pass the shrine of Sidi Chamarouch. Then it’s onwards and upwards to the Toubkal Refuge for the night before making the ascent the following morning

In addition to the 2-da4-day. Toubkal Trek, we also offer 6-day options for those interested in an extended climb of Mt Toubkal. These longer treks allow you to fully explore the region at a more leisurely pace, immersing yourself in the natural beauty of the Atlas Mountain.

Itinerary

Day 1: Azzaden to Lepiney Refuge

After arriving in Azzaden, stop in the village of Tizi Oussem and meet the locals. Berbers are famous for their warm hospitality, and will even welcome you into their home for tea

you’ll then begin a shorter, slower, 4 to 5-hour hike that will allow you to acclimate to the thinner air. You’ll pass by Tamsoult  Summer Village, farms, and the striking Tamsoult Cascade (2,204m) on the way. It’s a lovely spot for a picnic lunch and from late spring to early autumn, a lovely place to bathe.

You’ll continue to Lepiney Refuge for the night. Here you’ll enjoy a home-cooked meal and a glimpse into our fascinating culture.

Day 2: Lepiney Refuge to Toubkal Refuge

Today you’ll continue uphill for six hours towards the Toubkal Mountain Refuge, where you’ll stay for the second night. The terrain along this section of the trail is fairly steep, but once you pass Tizi Naguelzim Col, it’s only two and a half hours away.

Day 3: Summit and Return to Marrakech

Today is the most challenging day of the trek! Set out on a steep three to four-hour hike to the  Toubkal summit, where you can celebrate your victory with a photo at the metal marker. After enjoying the spoils of your hard work, make your way back down to the refuge. You’ll have time for a rest before you walk back to Imlil, where a driver will be waiting to drive you to Marrakech .
